I didn’t think I’d miss playing the beta as much as I do. I’m luck at the moment I have some college work I can focus on, but I’m starting to run out of work. If your like me and are hardcore starcraft 2 player, this top 5 list should help you.
5. Play a different blizzard game!
Lets be honest, blizzard make awesome games. If I had to choose 3 good ones, I’d pick Warcraft 3, Diablo 3 and World of Warcraft. Be careful when picking up World of Warcraft, it’s can take all your time and is very addictive.
4. Play a different RTS!
Did you know many of the top new Starcraft 2 players are coming from different games? Like Command & Conquer, Sins of a Solar Empire and Supreme Commander. Try some new RTS today :)
3. Read up on Starcraft 2!
Go read up on all the popular Starcraft websites and forums. This can help you if you unsure on tactics or a game plan you had in mind. Just be careful on what you read, because not everything you read is true.
2. Watch some Starcraft 2 videos!
Check out some of the great videos from high level of play, like tournament matches, tutorials (like Day9 daily) and watch low level videos and call out what they could do better.
1. Play Starcraft 1!
Go play the best RTS in history. Starcraft 1 is still very fun and keeps you practicing towards your SC2 skills.
You can always go outside and see what the real world is like but who wants to do that.
Today, I decided to change my Starcraft 2 race. I personally love Brood War Terran. One of my favourite units was the vulture and I do miss good old Medic/Marine combo against Zerg. Terran in Starcraft 2 is still true to it’s past and I still love TvT in Starcraft 2 which has some really interesting games.
It’s hard to explain why I’m making the move from Terran to Zerg, but I’ve just feel stronger playing Zerg and come on Banelings are awesome :) I just love all the difference things you can do as Zerg and seeing as I’m understanding more about how to macro as Zerg, I feel myself macroing a lot better than I was as Terran.
The Hydralisk is just a beast of a unit and love all the creative plays using stuff like Nydus Worms and the way you now have to use Mutalisks, stacking them now a days is so bad cos Thors anti-air is insane. All I know is Zerg and me have a good future ahead.
Just finished listening to The eSportsmen on BBC Radio 4 and it’s great to see professional gaming in more main stream media. Split into two parts, Kate Russell meets and talks to Team Dignitas. (In my opinion, Dignitas is the best pro gaming team in UK)
(Team Dignitas TF2 at iseries finals)
The discussions themselves were very interesting for me, because I’m a heavy gamer and spend most of my free time gaming. One part which talks about how from a parents side it looks like players are just sitting in their room playing games all day long (like what all ours parents think we do) and how they start to understand that professional gaming is very social and a real career. Of course no one is denying that earning a living from playing games is almost impossible and require a ridiculous amount of effect just to stay at the top of your game.
6th June 2009 was the first day we saw Liquipedia. This was my favourite resource when I played Starcraft:BW. I mostly used it for the strategy sections. It has many useful articles for starcraft players and fans. You can find Liquipedia at: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/
From pro-gaming teams, players, leagues to starcraft terms, tactics, build orders. Liquipedia is the best place for starcraft esports resources. As Starcraft 2 is coming close to release, I believe Liquipedia 2 will be a big part of the Starcraft 2 community and will help many of the new gamers improve.
So congratulations to Team Liquid and Liquipedia on it’s first Birthday! I hope to see how liquipedia will look in a year from now, so far I can see a bright future. Also check out the podcast on Liquipedia’s first birthday here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=129409
